More than 90 people poured into the Brown University Football parking lot to participate in the awesome Columbia Football Tailgate Party. With tremendous success, we drew a record number of attendees marking the largest turnout since Newport Polo All-Ivy Party in August. Great eats provided as alumni and guest feasted on delicious soup and other snacks before heading to the stadium to root our Lions to victory. And it was a sweet victory as Columbia beat Brown 31 to 13! Roar Lion, Roar!
CAARI would like to offer a special thank you to Marty Dunn, '79CC, for his contribution, camaraderie, and support. We also like to thank our volunteers who gave wonderful effort to help to make our events a success.
Below is a quick recap by our own Board Secretary, Roxana Sasse, '92, '11NURS:
Our Saturday Event was a hit. Plenty of people- alums and guests. Thanks to Marty Dunn for the wonderful support. Marty brought a busload of enthusiastic fans which added to the mix of tailgaters. His pizzas were a hit! The specialty soups we ordered were a popular treat. The Mead was an unusual but an inviting beverage. We did not give any announcements or introductions because the mingling and conversations were great without the added comments. There were lots of balloons and great weather. Marty, thanks for bringing over the CU band. We all enjoyed their songs. They helped us enjoy our foods and beverages.
We had a sign-up sheet and gave out tons of school swag. The sunglasses were a particular favorite among the alumni. We all enjoyed meeting former football players and hearing about their accomplishments on and off the football field during the tailgate party.
With Marty's help, CAARI produced an excellent combined event and have decided it will be a future gig every two years in Providence. Marty, who has a close relationship with the new basketball coach, has agreed to support our basketball event in February and plans to bring alums.
Many thanks to ALL the helpers, some as local as RI, but a few die hard Columbians drove in from Long Island and western Massachusetts just to support our LIONS on the field. We have plenty of pictures so I will get those out soon to everyone. Please share the pictures online for all Lions to view.
As my husband Rick and I set out for dinner in the evening we saw Marty and his merry group had their bus parked in front of Growlers, a local wing bar in Providence! They know how to party!!!
Again, many thanks to all our volunteers who participated. A very special thanks again to Marty Dunn who showed CAARI with grace and style how to make an uncertain Nov. 19 Columbia vs Brown game a VERY special tailgate day!
